Bangkok: The wife of Thailand's ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra filed a 50 billion baht ($1.6 billion, Dh6.1 billion) lawsuit on Friday against a government anti-graft body that froze her family's assets.
A lawyer for Pojamarn Shinawatra filed the suit at Bangkok's Civil Court claiming the order by the Assets Examination Committee (AEC) to freeze 2.5 billion baht of her assets was unfair.
The AEC was established by the military leaders who ousted Thaksin in a coup last year, with the task of investigating allegations of corruption during Thaksin's six-year administration.
The committee has frozen about 65 billion baht in assets belonging to Thaksin, Pojamarn and other members of their family pending the outcome of court cases related to charges of corruption and abuse of power.
If the courts rule against Thaksin and his family members, their money could be seized by the government.
"The order to freeze the assets was made arbitrarily because the investigation has not been completed," the lawsuit read.
