Ras Al Khaimah: A sting operation by the Criminal Investigation Department in Ras Al Khaimah led to the arrest of four Africans after they were caught trying to sell counterfeit currency to a trader.

The deal stipulated for the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) trader to pay Dh1 million in exchange for $3 million [about Dh11m] in counterfeit currency.

Major Hamad Ali Al Dibani, head of the CID said in a press conference on Tuesday that they sprung into action after they received a tip-off that four Africans in Dubai were in possession of $3 million in counterfeit currency and were in the process of selling the entire amount to a trader from RAK.
The trader was ordered to follow police instructions during the operation.

"The four Africans had with them part of the fake dollars in a sealed steel safe and handed it over to the RAK trader as a guarantee until they come back to RAK to close the deal. They were supposed to come back to RAK to deliver the rest of their counterfeit dollars and get Dh1 million from the RAK trader," said Major Al Dibani.

"The suspects postponed the operation several times," he added.
