Riyadh: Revenues generated from housing services during last year's Haj amounted to more than 1.5 billion Saudi riyals, a recent economic study shows.

So far, official Haj missions from Islamic countries as well as tourism companies involved in the Haj have rented more than 7,000 buildings in Makkah, well before this year's pilgrimage starts in less than two months.

Expectation

The central area surrounding the holy Haram, overlooking the Ka'aba, includes most of the buildings leased for this year's Haj season, when more than 1.5 million Muslims are expected to arrive from throughout the Islamic world to perform the pilgrimage.

Dealers in Haj housing services estimated that rates in luxury hotels per person in the central area will be as much as 7,000 riyals.

In towers and other buildings, the rates will be 2,000 to 4,000 riyals, but the rates for one person in areas far from the Haram may be as low as 1,000 to 1,500 riyals.

Safety

Naif Al Qinawi, a real estate investor, noted that all the buildings that were rented met the conditions established by the Pilgrims Housing Committee. He added that the buildings were equipped with all safety devices.

Al Sharif Mansour Abu Riyash, chairman of the real estate committee of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said foreign agents earn about 500,000 riyals in commissions.
