Abu Dhabi: Right Angle's financial commitments in building air-conditioned bus shelters in Dubai, the first such project of its type in the world, have exceeded Dh750 million, Raman Multani, its chief executive officer, said on Tuesday.
"This is a design, build, operate and transfer project," Multani told Gulf News.
"Currently, we have commissioned a little more than 600 air-conditioned bus shelters in Dubai. We will end up by having about a 1,000 bus shelters by October this year," he added.
Multani said Right Angle is building the bus shelters at locations mandated by the Dubai Road Transport Authority.
"We have a 10-year contract to operate and maintain the bus shelters from the time of commissioning," said Multani.
"It's a free service to the bus users of Dubai. Revenue is generated by advertising... Saces inside and outside individual bus shelters are rented out to companies in blocks of four weeks," he added.
Right Angle, a Dubai-based media development and management company, employs a staff of 170 people. The company was selected by the RTA out of four companies that originally bid for the project.
