Dubai/Sharjah: Three people died in road accidents over the past two days while a woman was seriously injured after being run over by a speeding car whose driver fled the scene of accident, police said.
In an accident yesterday, one man died after being hit by a truck on an internal road in Al Warqa. He has not been identified.
A Sudanese passenger died and the driver of the vehicle sustained serious injuries when his speeding vehicle lost control and hit a pavement. They were coming to Dubai from Abu Dhabi. The accident occurred early on Friday.
Speeding
In a separate incident in Sharjah, an Indian motorist died on Friday morning as he was speeding on the Sharjah Ring Road between Bridge No 7 and Al Zubair. He was hit by another motorist.
The passengers in his vehicle and the second car were rushed to Al Qasimi Hospital for treatment.
On Thursday, a Filipina was run over in Al Taawun in Sharjah. Police said the woman, identified as Marlene, 40, was run over by a speeding car in the afternoon as she was trying to cross Al Taawun Road behind the Sharjah Expo Centre. The motorist fled the scene of accident. The woman is in serious condition.
In another incident, a parked car in Al Nahda area caught fire which spread to two other parked cars. People panicked and started running, fearing an explosion, said an eyewitness, Edwin D'Souza.
