Muscat: Oman has ordered a salary hike for government and public sector employees, ranging between 5 and 43 per cent, according to a report issued by the Oman News Agency on Saturday.
The raise, ordered by Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed of Oman, is among the raft of steps taken by the government to curb inflation.
Under the order, government employees with lower grades will get the highest raise on their basic salaries and vice versa. Those who are covered under Social Securities will get a 10 per cent raise.
Sultan Qaboos also ordered a government committee to look into the steep rise in house rents, and asked the authorities to ensure that retail traders do not raise the price of essential food commodities.
