Muscat: Iran wants a peaceful region without policing by outside forces, expressing its willingness for cooperation among all countries of the region, says the country's envoy to Oman.
"The presence of an 'outside' military in the region will neither benefit the countries in the area nor would it benefit the countries from where these militaries come from," Morteza Rahimi told Gulf News in a recent interview at the mission's premises, without naming any specific country.
"Iran is ready to cooperate with all the countries in this region [Middle East] for peaceful coexistence," he said, after addressing a press conference to announce celebrations for the Islamic Revolution's 29th anniversary today.
He added, "We are ready to cooperate with any country in the world."
He believes that with Iran's technological knowhow and willingness of the other countries in the area, a strong regional bloc can be created. "Our priority is our neighbours so we would like to keep strong and healthy relations with all our neighbours," he stressed.
Nuclear energy
"We are ready to cooperate with our neighbours and the other countries in the region in every field from education and medicine to technology, including nuclear energy for peaceful purposes," he added.
He also pointed out that people in the region are not too happy with the policing of their waters by outside forces. "The military presence in the area increases hatred for that country among people in the region and it would not be beneficial for any country to send their military to this region," Rahimi said while talking through an interpreter.
"Policing of the region by militaries will not bring peace for any of us," he warned.
Instead the Iranian envoy advocates cooperation within the region. "Cooperation will benefit every country in the world and strengthen peace."
