Dubai: Emal International, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Development Company and Dubai Aluminium Company (Dubal), will set up an aluminium smelter complex in Saudi Arabia at cost of $5 billion.
The plant’s production capacity will be 700,000 tonnes of raw aluminum in the first phase.
The companies have signed an agreement Emaar Economic City to set up the project in the latter’s King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) development, according to a joint statement.
The agreement has the approval of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (Sagia).
“The aluminium smelter complex at KAEC will be among the largest such facilities in the region and will create over 2,500 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs,” the companies said.
Emal is also developing an aluminium smelter of 1.4 million capacity in two phases in the upcoming Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone in Abu Dhabi’s Taweelah area.
