Sana'a: More than 15,500 displaced people are living in harsh conditions in tents around the city of Sada'a and urgently need food, water and other essentials, said the International Red Cross Committee (ICRC) on Saturday.
The ICRC said in a statement that it had cooperated with the Yemen Red Crescent Association in distributing flour, rice, cooking oil, beans, sugar and salt to the displaced people from Haidan, Razeh, Sahar, Talah, and also those in the city of Sa'ada.
"The situation of the displaced, ill and wounded people, and the groups of people that are cut-off, is worsened by the lack of clean water and medical care," an ICRC statement said.
Distributed
Some 280,000 litres of drinking water are being distributed on a daily basis to the displaced, the statement said. About 2,400 displaced people were also given drinking water in Al A'Redha and Al Saifi where water pumps were established at the expense of the ICRC, the statement said.
Equipment was also distributed to some 1,000 families in Al Malaheedh to help them purify their drinking water. The ICRC has provided medical assistance for more than 500 people during the last few months.
Meanwhile, three more organisations say they are on their way to Sa'ada to help the victims of war with medical assistance.
Ramziah Al Eryani, chairwoman of the Yemeni Women Union, said that her organisation along with the international organisation CARE and the UNFPA in Yemen, would send four fully equipped mobile hospitals to Sa'ada this week. Volunteer doctors and psychologists and other specialists will be sent with the mobile hospitals that will start Wednesday this week, Al Eryani said.
