Sa'ada: The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has supported Sa'ada war victims with $500,000, (Dh1,839,988) said organisers of a relief campaign on Monday.
The aim of this campaign is to help about 2,000 families in the districts of Shada, Al Dhaher and Razeh in Sa'ada province, said Mohammad Qasim Zaid, director of the Al Amal Charity, which is implementing the relief campaign.
Qasim also said that his charity distributed food (wheat, rice, sugar, and cooking oil) to about 300 stricken families from the Makkah Charity.
Other relief materials such as blankets and tents were distributed.
The number of people affected by the war is estimated at 250,000 out of the 700,000 population of Sa'ada province.
On July 17 President Ali Abdullah Saleh declared an end to the war which erupted early 2004 between government troops and Shiite cleric Hussain Badr Al Deen Al Houthi who was killed three months later.
Thousands of Yemenis were killed and injured in the war.
