Damascus: The bodies of 114 Arab fighters were received by Syria on Wednesday as part of a prisoner exchange between Israel and Hezbollah.

The bodies were among the 197 returned by Israel last week for the remains of two Israeli soldiers in a United Nations mediated deal.

Five Lebanese prisoners were released by Israel under the deal.

The bodies were greeted by hundreds of relatives as they came through the Jedaideh crossing point between Lebanon and Syria.

Syrians and Palestinians who grew up in refugee camps in Syria made up the 100 bodies which will be buried in Syria this week.

The remaining will be moved to their countries if their governments agree to take them in, a senior official of the Syrian based faction Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command said.
