Riyadh: Saudi Arabia, which is determined to take all measures to avoid any stampede incidents at Jamarat in future, is planning to send an experts' panel to Muslim countries to generate awareness among pilgrims about performing a safe stoning ritual. The proposal, which was mooted at a recent workshop, coincides with the construction of a new multi-level Jamarat Bridge, said Dr Habib Zainul Abideen, deputy minister of municipal and rural affairs. "The bridge will have two helipads for air ambulance services and a tower for escalators to carry ambulances to the upper floors of the bridge. There will also be special stations for Civil Defence teams and Saudi Red Crescent Society volunteers and their equipment and vehicles at the Jamarat complex," he said.
Dr Habib Zainul Abideen said this at a press conference held in Riyadh yesterday at the end of a workshop. The workshop's recommendations will be presented to the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Miteb Bin Abdul Aziz before its referring to the Council of Ministers for final approval, Dr Habib Zainul Abideen said. "The pilgrims should be given a thorough understanding on how to perform the ritual in a smooth, comfortable and safe manner. Booklets and pamphlets with detailed information about this should also be distributed to the voluntary organisations and societies in those countries," he said.
