Riyadh: The Abdul Aziz Bin Baz Charity Foundation has started shutting down its branch offices in various parts of the kingdom following a directive from the Ministry of Social Affairs for violation of its regulations.

Daifullah Al Balavi, general supervisor of charity societies at the ministry, told reporters here yesterday that instructions have been issued to close the offices because of the foundation's opening of several branches without either prior approval or getting licences from the ministry.

"The foundation had not obtained approval even from its board of trustees to open the branches. It also collected donations in violation of the ministry's regulations," he said.

Al Balavi, however, said that the foundation, which was named after the late Islamic scholar and grand mufti of Saudi Arabia Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Baz, will continue its activities based at its headquarters in Riyadh. He said the Bin Baz Project for Helping Youths to Get Married has no links with the closure of the branch offices.

"It will continue its mission as a subsidiary of Al Birr Charitable Society based in Riyadh," he said.

The Abdul Aziz Bin Baz Charitable Foundation was established in 1422H with the objective of spreading the message of Shaikh Bin Baz through printing and publishing of his books and religious edicts.

Its other objectives include holding of seminars and conferences on major Islamic issues and compiling their proposals and recommendations, setting up of a centre to carry out researches and studies about major contemporary issues concerning the Arab and Muslim Ummah like the position of Islam with regard to terrorism.

The foundation also has a special centre for finding job opportunities as well as a centre for the care of widows and divorcees.
