Riyadh: Amid reports that the incidence of divorce in the GCC states is on the rise, a Saudi woman is gearing up to establish a society to take care of divorced women.

Speaking to reporters here, Niama Al Turky unveiled her ambitious plan to devote her life to alleviate the suffering of many a divorced women.

"I am seeking a licence from the authorities for setting up a charity society for the care of divorced women.

"My project will be based on an academic study carried out by Riyadh's King Saud University about the condition of divorced women in the Kingdom," she said.

According to Niama Al Turky, she is determined to champion the cause of divorced women after encountering the plight of a large number of divorcees.

"I am totally perturbed at the state of affairs with several divorced women who are leading a miserable life under immense stress and agony.

"Being victims of exploitation, these women have also been forced to bear the expense of bringing up children from their former husbands," she said.

In his research paper, Abdul Aziz Al Johani doing his master's degree in social sciences at Prince Naif Arab University for Security Sciences stressed that training courses should be conducted for young men and women before and after marriage.

The courses should be based on awareness programmes on how to lead an exemplary married life with maximum adjustments and understanding.

He also called for setting up social guidance centres for this purpose, besides making a thorough study about the general causes of disharmony and dispute among couples as well as ways of solving them.
