Riyadh: Saudi Arabia's Prince Talal Bin Abdul Aziz urged American policymakers and think-tanks to carry out a serious study about the situation in the Arab world and not to make judgments after superfluous evaluations. He also reiterated that no Islamic political party can be deprived of its right to participate in the democratic process as long as it upholds democratic values and principles and fulfils commitments to its people.
Prince Talal Bin Abdul Aziz, who is the chairman of the Riyadh-based Arab Gulf Programme for the United Nations Development Organisations and the Cairo-based Arab Council for Childhood, made these remarks during a lecture at the American University in Cairo. The lecture, titled "Political Reform: US and Arab Perspectives", was held recently at the Ewart Hall of the University, a copy of which was distributed by the prince's media office in Riyadh yesterday. Prince Talal came down heavily on US policy toward the Arab and Muslim world. "We believe, apparently, the US foreign policy is mainly targeting the Muslim world rather than other democracies. Prince Talal said that democratic reforms are gaining wider popularity in the Arab world.
