Riyadh: Saudi border guards have arrested as many as 91,000 people trying to illegally enter the kingdom via its borders during the first quarter of 2006.

A huge quantity of weapons, explosives and drugs were also seized.

"Some 653 smugglers have also been arrested. A total of 1,036 kilograms of hashish and 1.2 million kilograms of another drug called Qat, in addition to 1,776 bottles of liquor were also seized," said Brigadier General Hamoud Al Rouqi, director of the Public Affairs Department at the Border Guards.
