Makkah: Shaikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais, Imam and Khateeb of the Holy Mosque, has warned of a dangerous human disaster, "which has no parallel in the world's recent history, resulting from the savage and barbaric Israeli bombardment and hostilities against the Lebanese and Palestinian people." In his Friday sermon, Shaikh Al Sudais warned the international community about the consequences of the Israeli brinkmanship policy - a matter that may plunge the entire region into a long period of darkness. He called upon the world's people and the international organisations to work hand in hand to stop the Israeli atrocities and save innocent children and helpless civilians in Lebanon and Palestine. He added, "I am addressing the entire world community from over the pulpit of the Holy Haram to work together to stop these criminal attacks."
He also condemned the international silence and ambivalent attitude to Israeli terrorism and indiscriminate bombardment of civilians. "Where are those who filled the world with slogans of freedom and democracy? They don't fear that the history would condemn them for their double-standard policies," he said. In the presence of hundreds of thousands of worshippers, who came from all walks of life, he paid tribute to the resistance of the Palestinian people in Gaza to the Israeli shelling and killings, which led to the complete destruction of its infrastructure, including hospitals, schools and universities. Addressing Muslim leaders he said Almighty Allah afflicts His slaves with these ordeals to test steadfastness, and urged them to resort to sound reason and unify their ranks in the best interest of the Ummah. He said the Ummah should be proud of the bravery shown by the Palestinians and Lebanese and stressing that Allah's victory will prevail soon.
