Riyadh: The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance is seriously considering establishment of female da'awa (Islamic guidance) department at the ministry as part of the measures to introduce a clear-cut mechanism for da'awa work among women.
"The ministry is currently carrying out studies about conducting Islamic preaching among women in a more organised and scientific way, and that is under the umbrella of the ministry. The studies include setting up of separate section for women preachers at the ministry," said Dr Taufiq Al Sudairy, undersecretary for Islamic affairs at the Ministry.
Speaking to Gulf News, he unveiled plans of the ministry to impose restrictions on the preaching among women without permission from the ministry, and this is also aimed at preventing the misuse of the da'awa field by some extremists for spreading their deviant ideologies.
"We intend to reorganise the women da'awa field in a way that fulfills the needs of society. At present, most of the women preachers carry out da'awa work on their own, without permission from the ministry," he said.
Spreading fear
Dr Taufiq Al Sudairy also asserted that the ministry has no role with some women preachers who preach at some public functions or at certain places like women's colleges. They spread fear among the audience by saying that those who do not adhere to the Islamic dress code could meet a tragic end.
According to Al Sudairy, the ministry had issued licences for some women preachers and they are carrying out da'awa work in coordination with the ministry.
"The ministry wants to improve the current position of da'awa work among women by making it under its direct supervision, and mapping out a concrete mechanism for it," he said while asserting that some preachers, who are reportedly spreading extremist ideas, have no relation with the ministry.
