Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has decided to construct 30 luxury villas to serve as lodging for leaders and foreign dignitaries who are to gather in Riyadh for future meetings, a high-ranking Saudi source has said.

Analysts see this as an indication of the country's satisfaction over the outcome of the recent Arab Summit held in Riyadh.

The project comes upon the directives of King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, the source added in press statement yesterday.

Security plan

The project, at the King Abdul Aziz International Conference Centre in Riyadh, will also include a 14-storey hotel, and is expected to be finished by the end of 2008.

The chief of Saudi Royal Protocol, Mohammad Al Tubaishi, said the new project would raise the standards at the centre to international level.

Meanwhile, the Riyadh police announced the success of the security plan that was in place for the March 28-29 Arab Summit. More than 15,000 security personnel from various police and military units took part in the execution.

As many as 120 surveillance cameras were installed on the streets that were used by the Arab leaders and the participating delegations. Four integrated operation rooms have been in operation round-the-clock since the arrival of the leaders, said a security spokesman at the Riyadh police.

Riyadh police spokesmen have expressed thanks to the residents of the city for using alternative streets during the summit as a number of streets had been closed during the summit for security reasons.
