Riyadh: Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Mohammad Al Shaikh, the Saudi grand mufti, and Chairman of the Board of Senior Ulema [Muslim scholars] and Administration of Islamic Research, accused foreign circles of misleading and exploiting Saudi youth to commit "heinous" acts under the banner of Jihad. In statements carried by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Monday evening, the Saudi grand mufti, the highest religious authority in the Kingdom, warned young Saudis against travelling abroad for jihad.

"Saudi youth have been exploited by foreign suspicious circles under the banner of jihad to commit heinous acts for destructive goals," he pointed out.

He attributed the misleading of Saudi young men to their lack of sufficient knowledge of Islam and proper guidance.

"This lack of sufficient knowledge of Islam and proper guidance makes it difficult for those young men to differentiate between what is right and what is wrong," the Saudi religious leader clarified.

Corruption

He pointed out that travelling abroad for jihad and getting involved in acts of destruction are in clear defiance to the state leader and ulema and could bring corruption to the whole nation.

"By doing so, these young men violate the divine commandments as they are disobeying their legitimate ruler, subjugating their will to people with deviant ideologies and advocating fundamentalism and extremism," Shaikh Abdul Aziz noted.

He added that in accordance with the genuine Islamic teachings, only the legitimate leader is the one who calls and prepares for jihad. A few years ago and against a background of fierce attacks by militants against Saudi facilities, the grand mufti was quoted as saying that suicide bombings had nothing to do with jihad and could be considered un-Islamic.

The Saudi grand mufti urged the youth to strictly abide by the Islamic principles and teachings, fear God and obey their rulers.
