Abu Dhabi: Defending champions Esnaad will be joined by nine other teams as the 17th Inter-oil Badminton Tournament gets underway today at the Petroleum Institute here.
Organised by the National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC), the ten teams from the oil and gas industry in Abu Dhabi will battle it out for honours in one of the longest running badminton events in the capital after the ISC Open. NSPCC CEO Aqeel Madhi will inaugurate the tournament at 6.30 pm today.
Organising secretary Oomen Chandy said the initial stage of the tournament would be league based with the top four placed teams going into group A, while the following four will play in group B. Each team can have a minimum of 13 and a maximum of 15 players with the game format made up of five events - one mixed doubles and four doubles. A 100 points will be awarded to the winning team.
Teams taking part are Esnaad, Adnoc/Takreer, Adma-Opco, Zadco, Adgas, Gasco, Adco, NDC, Esnaad and Borouge.
