Abu Dhabi: The UAE national soccer team will leave to Tehran from Al Ain Airport on Friday to finish the last step of their preparations before facing Iran in the Asian qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup on Monday.
The UAE, led by their head coach Bruno Metsu, ended their domestic training camp by conducting their last training session at Al Qattarh Stadium last night with good news regarding the participation of pivot Hilal Saeed in the encounter at Azadi Stadium in Tehran.
Encounter
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), confirmed that Saeed has collected one yellow card only and not two cards and is cleared to play in the match without serving a one match suspension.
"I am very happy with the news as the administrative staff of the team thought that I have two yellow cards and should miss the encounter," Saeed told Gulf News yesterday.
The UAE have never won a match in Tehran. "Everything has to start somewhere," Abdul Rahim Jumaa, the team captain said.
Stamina
"Different teams have different fortunes.
"We have confidence in our capabilities and we are featuring a number of young talented players who have never met Iran before and have no worries about facing Iran who have older players who lost some of their vigour and stamina but have vast experience.
"We will give them the run around and will play to achieve a positive result which will help us to maintain our lead of the group and motivate us to win the return leg at home on June 7."
