Dubai: Al Ain goalkeeper Moattaz Abdullah has agreed to sign a new one-year contract with the club for Dh 1.5 million.
The deal was announced in a press conference at the club attended by team coach Winfried Schaefer and manager Majid Al Owais.
"I decided to stay with Al Ain despite offers I got from other UAE clubs. I do not want to leave the club which I have played for for 10 years and won 14 titles in Continental, GCC and domestic levels," said Moattaz.
The former UAE goalkeeper, 34, said he felt he could play for years to come.
"I am still performing well and I hope to continue with the same good standard," he said. Schaefer said he was happy to renew Moattaz's contract because he was one of the best goalkeepers in the UAE.
"Moattaz is an excellent goalkeeper and I hope he will show his good form with Al Ain.
"I think his standard will improve since we have signed a German goalkeeping trainer," said the Al Ain coach.
Meanwhile, the club have signed young Al Nasr midfielder Darwish Ahmad, who will wear the shirt No 24 shirt following the departure of midfielder Subait Khater for Al Jazira. Darwish is seen as one of the most promising midfielders in the first division.
UAE coach Bruno Metsu selected him for the national team and he played in the World Cup qualifiers, but an injury sidelined him from joining the team recently.
Al Ain will also be looking to sign Emirates Club and UAE midfielder Abdullah Mal Allah, who announced several times that he wants to play for Al Ain in the coming season.
