Dubai: As many as six UAE riders will take part in the show jumping championship organised by the International Equestrian Federation of Hachenburg, Germany.

The championship will be held from today to August 3 and some of the world's top riders will be competing.

Sultan Abdullah Al Marzouki, Secretary General of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, said the UAE team would gain valuable experience by taking part in the international event.

He said: "We have a strong team of riders and the UAE show jumpers have already acquainted themselves with fantastic results in the international arena.

"I am very confident that our riders will also be competing for the medals in these international events.

The official said it was the intention of the UAE Equestrian Federation to excel in all the equestrian disciplines, which would raise the country's profile.

Plan for success

The Federation hopes to achieve its aim by taking part in most of the international competitions in the equestrian field.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Fahim, chief executive officer for German event sponsor's Hydra Properties, said the tournament was of great importance to the firm and part of their commitment to UAE sport in general.

He said: "Our primary aim is to ensure the UAE team riders get the maximum exposure and experience.

"We want to make them winners at the international stage.

"Our support for equestrian events also stems from the fact that this sport is part of our heritage and culture."
