Dubai: Dubai's representatives in the Transsyberia Rally 2007 are now engaged in some of the most demanding stages of the gruelling 4,125-mile race. Karim Al Azhari and Blair Cole of Porsche Team Dubai have entered Mongolia, where they will be spending their nights under canvas as the rally passes through the remote Gobi Desert.

Al Azhari and Cole, two of the UAE's most experienced racing drivers and joint founders of Dubai's Al Naboodah Racing Team, are competing in the two-week Transsyberia Rally in a Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia, a modification of the Porsche Cayenne S.

Great car

"This is a great car to be competing with on these tough stages," says Al Azhari. "It has been developed for precisely this kind of event. We have been keeping pace with an extremely competitive field and will now be looking to climb some places before the rally finishes on 17th August."

The Transsyberia Rally is one of the most demanding long-distance rallies. The on-road and off-road challenges of its route between Moscow and Ulan Bator in Mongolia range from crossing Siberian rivers to negotiating the dunes of the Gobi Desert. Since leaving Moscow on 3rd August the rally's 34 teams have already travelled across three time zones.

Currently, the race leaders are Simon Garnham and Matt Garnham in a Toyota Landcruiser. The best-performing Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia is placed third and is driven by Rod Millen and Co-pilot Richard Kelsey.

The main sponsors of Porsche Team Dubai in the 2007 Transsyberia Rally are Polimar, the UAE's leader in vehicle refinishing consumables and equipment supplies, and MAHA, a pioneer in quality, service and technology for vehicle testing and lifting.
