Dubai:  The Dubai International Sports Conference is set to discuss 'Professionalism and the Sports Industry' as the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) prepares its clubs to turn full professionals in the coming years.

The third edition of the conference will be held on May 31 and June 1.

"The third edition will be a new addition to what we achieved in the last two years in the first and second confErences. The conference will be very important to our sport as we enter into professionalism," said Dr Ahmad Sa'ad Al Sherrif, DSC Secretary General, at a press conference held at the DSC premises.

"I am proud to say that we have become more experienced.

"We are the first to organise such conferences discussing professionalism in a bid to help our clubs and players implement professionalism."

Al Sherrif said the World Cup trophy will be present at the conference, which will be held at Intercontinental Hotel at Festival City.

"The Vice President of the Italian Football Association will give a lecture and will bring with him the World Cup which Italy won in 2006 in Germany.

"Also Italian national team coach Cezare Maldini will accompany him and give a lecture at the conference," he said.

The conference will witness the participation of 37 lecturers from different countries speaking on the topic of professionalism.

Among the lecturers will be Steve McClaren, the former English team manager, and Shaikh Ahmad Mohammad Hasher Al Maktoum, the Olympic shooting gold medallist at Athens.

Others include retired Saudi Arabian footballer Sami Al Jaber, Fahd Masood, the UAE and Al Wahda club player and Mansour Al Belwi, the former chairman of Saudi club Al Ittihad.
