Dubai:  Ivo Klec of Slovakia helped himself to the men's super singles title with a three-set win over Morocco's Rabie Chaki in the Qasba 20th Marbella Resort Open Tennis Championship 2008 late on Thursday.

Klec staged a remarkable late rally to win 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 to pick up the winner's purse of Dh 24,000. The Moroccan, who is based in Paris took away Dh 12,000 for his efforts.

Though Klec lost the first set, he managed to do most of the damage as he tired out his opponent from Morocco with some long rallies.

"It was never a strategy before the final, but when I saw he was going for everything I decided to make him run about on court and get his energy level down," Klec stated.

Tiring

In the second set the top seed from Slovakia was more comfortable and focussed as he tied things up with a 6-1 score.

The third set could have gone either way, but Chaki started showing signs of tiring.

"It was hot out there and playing a strong opponent like Ivo was never going to be easy," Chaki stated.

The event was one of the rounds on the 2008 UAE National Rankings Series supported by Tennis Emirates.

The tournament was sponsored by Al Qasba, Bank of Sharjah, Kia Motors, National Paints, See Sharjah, DM TV, Sun and Sand Sports, Masafi and Mahesh Bhupathi Academies.
