A reader from Dubai asks: My friend failed in the medical test required for his visa. He was not allowed to do another medical test/X-Ray even though it was written and given by the hospital. When we inquired at the hospital, the doctor said he is not sick but has a small problem, which does not entitle him for a residence visa. He left but when I inquired at the immigration, they said that the letter clearly states that he is sick and can't enter the UAE. Kindly advice.

We advise the questioner that if his friend does not have any contagious decease, which does not allow him to reside in the UAE and if his friend can be treated, then he can treat the ailment and come back to the country after undergoing the same procedures, if he is outside the country at the moment.

Actually, upon collecting such a medical report from the doctor, the person should have requested a detailed report about his condition to see whether he can be treated, and in case the treatment does not require long time, then the questioner's friend should have submitted the detailed report with the Ministry of Labour and sought a period of one month to finalise the treatment.

In such a case, the ministry grants the person a further period of one month other than the two-month period for residence procedures, provided that the questioner should settle the ministry fees for that one-month period, which does not exceed a sum of Dh1,500. Only then he would have been able to take the medical test once again.
