Paris: Police detained 25 people in a massive early morning raid in an eastern French town on Tuesday.

More than 300 officers searched for suspects in two public housing complexes in Vitry-le-Francois on Tuesday.

The men were detained on suspected of involvement in urban clashes.

Another 11 suspects are still being sought. Police officials were speaking on condition of anonymity in accordance with force policy.

The June 14-15 clashes left the town's train station and several stores seriously damaged, with the harm estimated to have cost US$818,000.

Long-simmering tensions between police and youth in housing projects exploded into riots nationwide in 2005.
