New Delhi: Flamboyant lawyer and MP Ram Jethmalani is to make his film debut at the age of 85.
"I am starring in a movie on Sindhi culture, which will be screened in Delhi soon," Jethmalani said. He has a 10-minute-long role in The Awakening, by Dubai-based non-resident Indian Khushi Lalwani.
"In the film, I play the role of a chief guest who is handing over an award for a successful Sindhi person to the heroine. When she comes to receive the award I ask her what she knows about Sindhi culture," he said.
"Then the heroine refuses to accept it, saying she does not deserve it. But I say, 'I will crown you but you should learn about Sindhi culture'. She agrees and receives the honour. That's my role," he said.
A Sindhi himself, the former central minister earlier played the role of a lonely bachelor reminiscing his lost love in the music video, Tanha.
The Awakening has dialogues in Hindi and English. It will be screened on March 9 in the Films Division auditorium in Delhi, a screening to be attended by Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani.
"Jethmalani has done a great job in the movie," Lalwani said. The movie was a "bold attempt to show Sindhi culture", she added.
"The Sindhis went through a bad time during partition. But they have made themselves a big success in whichever field they work. However they are losing their roots," she said.
