Islamabad: The government has warned of suicide attacks directed at politicians and officials, a newspaper reported yesterday.

The National Crisis Management Cell of the interior ministry issued the warning as the security situation in Pakistan continues to deteriorate.

Several suicide bombers linked to the Taliban have reached other parts of the country from tribal areas to target Pakistan Peoples Party leaders Asif Ali Zardari and Makhdoom Ameen Fahim as well as other politicians and officers of law enforcement agencies, The News reported yesterday.

Possible targets also include former railway minister Shaikh Rashid Ahmad, said the online edition of The News.
