Islamabad: The central information secretary of former ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Q resigned yesterday over the crushing defeat of the party in the general elections last month, party sources and media reports said.
Senator Tariq Azeem, a former deputy information minister, submitted his resignation to party president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, who himself suffered defeat in his native Gujrat district in Punjab at the hands of a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate.
The resignation came as federal lawmakers-elect of PML-Q and allied parties were holding a meeting here to demonstrate their presence in the new incoming 342-member National Assembly.
Azeem told a private channel he had resigned due to ruling PML-Q election debacle.
