Islamabad: A chief Pakistani secret service agent, who the late Benazir Bhutto considered a dangerous enemy, will resign before the newly elected PPP comes to power.
The head of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Ijaz Shah, a retired army brigadier and close ally of President Musharraf, handed in his resignation several days ago, a government official said, adding that Shah held a farewell meeting on Monday.
Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated last December, suspected four military personnel of plotting to kill her, after a suicide bomb attack killed at least 139 people when she returned from exile to Karachi in October.
It is believed that Ijaz Shah is one of the people Bhutto wanted investigated following her death.
