Manila: The Chinese embassy in Manila denied the allegation of a Philippine senator that an embassy official was communicating with President Gloria Arroyo's husband Juan Miguel, during discussions for an aborted national broadband deal that was to be funded by China's overseas development assistance.

"What Senator Jamby Madrigal said doesn't tally with the facts. Such remarks are extremely irresponsible," said a statement issued by the Chinese embassy yesterday.

The Chinese embassy denied there was a collusion between Mr Arroyo and the Chinese embassy officials.
