Manila: Officials have ordered a tightened watch for human smugglers amid reports that syndicates operating at Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in northern Philippines are using various ports of entry to smuggle out victims who are mostly young Filipinas.
Department of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez has instructed the Bureau of Immigration to impose tighter measures against human smuggling syndicates that recruit young Filipino women whom they later force to engage in prostitution.
"It has come to my attention that Filipino women are being recruited by crooked and unscrupulous recruiters wherein such women end up as prostitutes in brothels in Sabah, Malaysia," Gonzalez said.
