New York: A naturalized US citizen must face trial on a charge of supporting an Iranian terrorist organisation, a federal judge has ruled.

Zeinab Taleb-Jedi is accused of supporting the People’s Mujahedeen Organisation of Iran, a charge her attorneys said is “outrageous”.

If convicted, Taleb-Jedi faces up to 15 years in prison.

US District Judge Brian Cogan on Thursday denied a defense motion to dismiss the case against Taleb-Jedi.

Prosecutors allege that Taleb-Jedi told FBI agents in 2004 that she "wholeheartedly" supported the Mujahedeen.

Taleb-Jedi became a US citizen in 1996. In 1997, she learned that her husband died in a bus bombing on the road near Baghdad.
